Inter-organizational Task Force on Domestic Disasters and Acts of Terrorism

BCA serves as the Disaster Inventory coordinator for the independent blood centers, while working with America’s Blood Centers on the AABB Interorganizational Task Force on Domestic Disasters and Acts of Terrorism.  The task force was formed in 2002 to assist HS in coordinating the national response to both military and civilian blood supply-related issues that may arise during disasters.

BCA’s role in the Disaster Task Force is to provide inventory data for the independent blood centers in the United States and coordinate movement of blood products into the affected areas if necessary, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

An Operations Handbook was created to assist blood centers in preparing for and responding to future disasters and acts of terrorism that affect the blood supply.  The most current version of the AABB Technical Manual also has a chapter dedicated to disaster preparedness.  Click here to download a .pdf version of the Handbook.
